Oooooooh, it is so good to be fishing our home water again! We put in around 5pm and decided to start in Gunstocker Creek just past the little bridge. The creek channel runs right between a series of tiny islands and the largemouth usually hang at the corners. After catching several on spinnerbaits, we drifted back through and flipped the deep shady edges with a brushhog and picked up a couple more. The wind picked up a little out of the south so we headed back out to the other side of the bridge and fished the windblown bank of the first cove on the right. A section of it drops straight into about eight feet and the bass were busting shad or sunfish. We caught a ton of short fish on the spinnerbait and then switched to topwater. I'll tell you what, if you fish the Hiwassee and don't throw a Horny Toad, you are missing out on some quality hits. In the last hour of the day, we caught six largemouth over 15" on the toad and had two that were a little over 3 1/2lbs each. We are looking forward to a good afternoon tomorrow as the conditions should be the same.
