This month's T.U. fly fishing day will be held on Saturday 13th beginning at 10am. We will meet at Reliance Fly &Tackle. Their phone # is 423-338-7771 if you need directions.
At 10am, we will begin with basic fly casting lessons. If you are new to fly fishing, this may be the help you need to refine and improve your accuracy casting to that finicky trout.
At 11am, Don Denney and Jim Monfort will be conducting our monthly bug sampling. This is when we collect and indentify aquatic insects from Childers Creek. It gives us a window into water quality and what's feeding the fish.
After the bug sampling, we will eat lunch on the back deck at Reliance Fly &Tackle. The Cookie Lady (Mrs.Denney) will have some of wonderful cookies and drinks on hand and Reliance Fly &Tackle sell some wonderful sandwiches.
While we eat lunch, some vises will be set up and we will be demonstrating how to tie flies. An extra vise will be available for anyone who wants to learn how to tie a fly. If you already tie flies, feel free to bring your materials and tools and demonstrate your fly pattern.
Following lunch and fly tying, we will break up into small groups and head out to the river. A valid Tennessee fishing license and trout stamp are required, and can be purchased at Reliance Fly &Tackle. If the generation schedule allows for floating, a few anglers may get to fish from a watercraft. Most of us will be wading, so you may want to have a pair of waders or a change of clothes on hand.
