Hiwassee fishing part 2 3/11/2007

[Big Fish]

Got a late start today didn't even put in until around noon. Started out strong first fish in about the first five cast was a solid 3+. Had 4 fish w/2 keepers in the first 30 mins. and then the slowed. Ended up with three or four more small fish. Most came off traps up shallow. Had one off a spinner bait. The rest came off a jig. I,m going to try it later this week and i'm going to try and go to the Bar and fish one afternoon. Saw alot crappie fishermen catching good bass off small jigs, so maybe i should get my ultralight out.

Good report, Big Bass. I'm looking forward to the reopening of the refuge area so we can hit the prespawners. A year or so ago I was flat burned out on the Hiwassee. However, after fishing the Chick, Nick, and Guntersville last year I've realized how good it really is.

JASON, You want have to look long the refuge opened this year on march 1. I called TWRA to make sure. So, your almost 2 weeks behind you'll have to hurry and catch up.

I could have sworn it was March 31st

. Did they move it back a month from past years?

Maybe they did because last year the water was up a little bit. I called Crossville to make sure and they said it was march 1. If not I know there was a lot of people in trouble this weekend. HA,HA

Saturday he did the family thing and sunday he had to protect and serve. we are going one afternoon this week though.
