This Feb. 13 the hiwassee chapter of Trout Unlimited will be holding its monthly Newbie day for anyone who is interested in learning how to fly fish, indentify inscet larvae, learn to cast a fly rod and tie flies. This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the local trout fisheries and learn in the process. It is free to all and is a ton of fun. The guys up there are down to earth country guys. They are not the run-of-the-mill trout snobs. A lot of the guys there spin fish as well. They are great guys and a lot of fun to hang around. The day will start off ar 10 am and we will begin with bug sampling in nearby Childers Creek then go to the Hiwassee Angler to hang out, talk, casting lessons, and fly tying demos. I am fairly new to the group but really enjoy it.
