Yeah it was raining pretty steady when I got off work Thursday evening and I backed out of going. I was already at home watching it rain when my phone rang with a fella from work asking where I was at. I told him I was at home. He said "I thought you were going this evening...man I done got 2 keepers in the boat. Come on down and you can fish with me in my boat if you want to". So I grab a poncho and 2 rods and off I went to meet him.
There we was...STEADY but warmish rain. We pull up to a creek on the river and my first cast I hook one and he has one on too. And it never let up...the rain or the fun. I've always heard stories of those guys that catch 30-40 fish with so many keepers and you know how it goes. But it never has happened to me. Until yesterday.
If we wasn't getting hung up and retying jigs...we were reeling fish in. We fished from 5 o clock in the evening til dark above B&B Marina. We put 7 keepers in the livewell. None of them were barely legal either...they were either just under 10 inches that we threw back or were 11 1/2 to 12 1/2 inch fish. How many we caught and threw back I have no idea. I literally and honestly lost count. We caught lots of crappie and bluegill, got 2 spotted bass, got a few shad too. I caught our biggest crappie on a red/charteuse slider grub under a float. The rest came off 3" grubs, 1/16th oz jigs and 1/32 oz popeye jigs under floats.
We were wet and that run back to the ramp was kinda cold but I ain't had that much fun fishing in LONG time. All our fish were caught in 2-8 feet of water around any cover you could find. There wasn't a single place we stopped that we DIDN'T catch a fish. See if I sit at home wishing I was fishing when it's raining. I ain't lettin' that stop me no more. LOL.
