I snuck off for a couple of hours yesterday to trout fish up at Reliance, total, one limit of rainbows standing in the same spot in under thirty mins.:) not a record but still pretty good.
I have a little "hole" up there that has never failed to hold at least one fish even on the worst of days and yesterday was no exception, only they must have stocked recently because it was full. There wasn't alot of people up there considering it was a Friday but from the big bend area upstream I did have some company.
I did see one of the oddest things I've ever seen, three men crammed into a little rubber raft that webb's store rents floating down the river trying to fish out of it.I spoke with them a little before they launched and they said they had planned to float the entire river from the upper ramp by the powerhouse all the way down to Webb's.emoScratch That thing was small to try and get two people in let alone three grown men and a cooler!I hope they made it back down all right!Great day to be up there as you could feel the seasonal change coming on.the air seemed a little more crisp, the sky a little more clear etc...

I just re-read a post from dschlact (new user) about parksville,I think that might have been him and a couple of buddies I saw Friday in that little bitty raft!Hope they made it down O.K.

Hey ranman, was they generating when you was up there. Seems like the water has been off a lot here lately. Glad you got a limit and had a good time. thanks for the report. Don't get many trout fishing reports anymore.

Your welcome!I kinda had to report about it caus it's the only fishing I've done in weeks now!:( To answer your question yes they were generating.I guess I got there at around 11:00 or so and it was all the way up at the lower end of the river by 411 so they must have started it early.I didn't call before I left because I had no plans to wade at all.

Also for the flyfishermen out there, there where so many flies coming off the water at one point that it looked like it was snowing!I couldn't catch one to see what it was but I assume, and you know what happens when you do that:) that they where small blue wing olives or midges.I did catch a small sulfer which really surprised me!I thought that was a springtime mayfly.emoScratch

Ranman, nope that was not me in the rubber float...unfortunatley we did not make it up to the Hiawassee. We stayed down on Parksville and fished really hard on Saturday with very little luck. I am hoping to be back down soon to float the Hiawasse with my brother-in-law. We will be in a canoe though, not a rubber raft...sounds like quite a sight! It is amazing what grown men will do when they get bit by the fishing bug ;)

Hey Ranman,

Thanks for the Hiwassee report. Glad to hear you had a good day. It is unusual to see sulphurs this late in the year. There is a white mayfly that comes off up there this time of year, usually around dusk. Could have been one of those.

Nope, I sure it was a sulpher. It was very yellow/ chart. and It had that little green eye going on:)I thought it was very strange to see one this late also.
