Hiwassee River Trout fishing...

Good Morning All,
Has anyone ever Fished the section of river below the Hiwassee Spillway located right at the Tn, Norh Carolina boarder? if soo how have you done?? i have never been that far up river. i have always fished from the powerhouse all the way down to reliance bridge so this section i know well. though im intrigued if anyone has any info on trout fishing on the section from the Powerhouse towards North Carolina to the Hiwassee spillway or release ( i guess that is what you would call it.) at the NC. TN boarder.

we used to drag canoes up the river bed, up river from the appalachia power house, but never all the way to the spill way and never while they were spilling. The deep pools up that way had walleye and smallmouth in them. Be warned that during warm weather, that place is a snake pit. A good friend of mine got bit by a copper head up there one evening and by the time they got him to the ER, the swelling had gone from his hand to his neck area. Very lucky he made it in time and was able to keep his arm.

like churly said be careful. i have fished from appalachi damn all the way down.there is a road you can drive almost to it.it where turtle town creek runs in to the hiwasse.we caught some good fish down the river.but it is the snakest place i have ever been.

Like B-Tracker, I also fished around where Turtle Town Creek runs into the Hiwassee one summer. Caught several smallmouth and few warmouths on a fly rod, a lot of fun, but no trout. I think the water gets to warm during the summer for trout that high up the river. And yes there're snakes everywhere up there!
BTW: Seeing the "giant tube/flume" at Turtle Town Creek close the mouth where it enters the Hiwassee is pretty cool!!! I think it's the only place it comes out of the ground once it leaves the Appalachia dam on its way to the power house?
Also I have seen the gate locked on the road leading to Turtle Town creek in that area a few times.

I have been up to Fontana dam and have seen the same thing with the giant tubes firing water out and down the river!! pretty cool!!!
