Anyone know anything about the Hiwassee River upstream from Charleston?

How far can you run up river from there without worrying about hitting rocks or shoals?

Thanks

A long time. You dont habe to start worryin about tge bottom till you start getting close to the pinhook area.

Thanks, I have been checking out a lot of different places since I bought a boat and wanted to ride up that way.

Is there any decent fishing up that way?

Bream fishing is hot up that way, decent size this time of year. In late march/early april you can load the boat with white bass throwing road runners or any of the like. Bass fishing isnt much, you can always scratch up a few spots and LM every now and then.

Sounds like my kind of place... at least then I would have an excuse to suck.

I took my daughter for a boat ride yesterday up the Hiwassee so I thought I would update this thread for anyone that was interested.

Going by a GPS app on my phone and Google Earth, I made it about 11.5 miles upstream from the Charleston boat ramp.

It is a nice wide ramp with plenty of parking.

There was a TN wildlife officer there with his boat (I think his last name was Lee) was nice and helpful giving me more info about the river.

The river was mostly about 15' deep until I went around the two islands and then it was about 8'.

There was a large tree in the middle of the river as I went around the second island but was not really in the way.

After the last bend in the river after about 11 miles, I started seeing a lot of snags and the depth went to about 4.5' and I turned around there.

The water was not as clear as I expected but I could just see the bottom at that point.

I would have liked to ease up the river a little further but my daughter was getting bored so I called it a day.

I want to go back at some point and try the bream fishing and maybe the White Bass next spring.

Here are a few pics.

The yellow line on the sat map shows how far I went.

With no rain that water will usually look like bath water its so clear.

That is sort of what I expected it to be like when I went up there.

I guess there just hasn't been time for it to settle out after all the rain we had over the winter.
