Fished Hiwassee tailwater today from 6:30am-11am. Stayed around below the powerhouse then moved downstream when the turbines came on. Action was fast at first but slowed down as the sun became bright. Managed a limit using corn. Tried roostertails and rapala countdowns with no success. Didnt catch any monsters but was still fun to be out in the water as the fog was lifting. Talk about scenery.

RE: Hiwassee Trout 5/5

The Trout fishing has been really tough this year, I dont think there stocking like they use too we caught 7 small Rainbows and 1 brown all on corn and were turned back late friday afternoon.Good job on the limit sounds like ya had fun!!

Oh they are stocking at the usual amount. The new regs that require them to maintain a minimum flow allow the stockers to disperse down river more evenly, where in the past they stayed bunched up around the powerhouse, they are now spreading more evenly throughout the tail water. These new regs will allow alot more fish to make it through the hot days. In years past i have seen hundreds of trout floating dead hours after their release because they were not generating and the slack water was too hot for the little guys.

It's good to see trout reports. I know that there are lots of people out there catching those trout. I've got a couple of buddies that go every week on the Hiwassee and it sounds like they do very well but they seem to be very tight lipped about it all. I would expect that the more trout posts the more each of you all will catch. Keep the info coming and I would expect that more will chime in and get interested in sharing info.

Go accross the bridge there in Reliance( left at the Webb store) then take the next right directly after the bridge and that road will make a 90 degree tuen to the right at the fly shop and that road dead ends a few hundred yards below the power house. There is a short up hill trail and suspended bridge that leads you over to the actual power house.

If you are going upriver for the smallies be sure to wear snake boots and snake chaps. there are plenty of them, especially in the drier times of year. I have never been able to get into those smallies everyone talks about only redeyes. Good luck and let us know if you find 'em.

you might want to try fishin for smallies below the dam at parksville on the ocoee and down below paty's bridge on the hiwassee

Below 411 to patty bridge used to be really good fishing. We used to use the drift boat and would catch lots of trout on the hiwassee. But the trout this year thier stocking seem pretty small (french fry fish).
