me and lbuck30 thought we we get out on the river this morning and give the crappie and my back a try....my back meaning , i just had back surgery monday and im feeling 100% better..... well we did pretty good .....we figured we caught over 100 fish and we wound up with 43 keepers....all of our fish came off the ledges on the main river channel on blue shad and john deere green grubs fished on 1/16 oz leadheads....the fish were between 8 to 15 foot deep...we did try up in the creeks a little and we did catch a few in 1 to 3 feet of water...i believe the creeks would of done better than they did but the water was pretty stained...

Thanks for the report. I was wondering how the crappie fishing was doing in the Hiwassee. It seems to me that with the reserve closed to fishing that it would really limit where you could fish.

the reserve part of the river is a great place to catch fish , especially in the spring when it opens up....you can still fish the ledges down there and the areas where the small creeks and ditches run into the main channel...they are very good this time of year and dont get much pressure...as far as water to fish...above the hiway 58 bridge ,,,theres plenty of water and creeks to get back in and catch these fish to

I launched the sea kayak from the 58 bridge up there yesterday and I've never seen so many shad in the skinny water in all my life. There were giant schools everywhere I went, and it seemed the more shallow I got, the more there were.
