Went up to the island today for the open hunt got wet this morning didnt see any thing til this evening around 2pm it was up opened a flood gate with deer shot at but missed and saw a bunch more. Gotme fired up! emoHoppingmad

went up there to and took a big doe to day.with all the people thos deer get to moveing preatty good.

I didn't know there were dates open to everyone. I thought that only quota hunts took place up there.

Do you have to check in or do anything special? Or just hunt and check a deer in like normal?

this weekend was the non-quota hunt for archery. No check in and check deer out as normal just tell them it was on the hiwassee refuge. I started to go but just went to my lease instead.

had 3 does come into bout 50 yards right before dark. but right as they were comin into range and i was about to draw, two guys came walking through talking and the deer split. oh well it happens on public land but still sucks. still haven't taken one with a bow but just gotta keep at em.

killed a big ten on the island last year took my nephew on the juvenile hunt and the first day it sounded like world war three!!!! deer running everywhere he ended up limiting out first morning with a 6pt and doe!!!! if you ever get a chance to go dont miss it just take bug spray bugs are BAD
