If you had to choose between engine manufacturers using same year and hp, 2 stroke engines, which would you choose and why. I am looking at a used boat and have the option of choosing between these manufacturers. Thank you.

To my knowledge Honda engines have always been 4 stroke from 1975-present.

Either way I'd take a 4stroke over a 2stroke, or a yamaha over a honda.

Myself I would have to go with the yamaha, you here bad about any and all if you listen enough but it seems the yamaha's are pretty dependable.

If the engines are used then it ain't gonna matter much. Its kinda like the motorcyle argument. Which ever you prefer. Honda has been in the 4 stoke bussiness longer but the Yamaha's have more experience with the 2 strokes. If you trust who you are dealing with. Flip a coin on it.

All things being equal the Honda will be heavier and slower. I don't believe they ever made a 2 stroke Honda outboard. 2 stroke or 4 stroke I would go with the Yamaha for the serviceability alone. Way more Yamaha mechanics and dealers than Honda around here.

Go with the one that it is easier to get parts/ service for.

Both are quality.

I believe Honda only made 2-strokes in 9-hp or less motors.
