Well Carter has been wanting to fish with me this week so after his ball game Saturday we set off. Put in at the dam and made a short run from there. We went in a spawning cove to look around and it was just too muddy to see anything much. There were lots of gar up shallow cruising and a carp ot two in there. We covered lots of water mostly catching small buck bass. I tied him on a chart/ black KVD 1.5 that always does the trick and I was using plastics and a .5 oz rattle trap. The water was 64 deg. so I knew there had to be some spawners in the flats but the muddy water just made it too hard to locate them so we just fan casted and covered water. I made a throw at what looked like a big stump. It was really just a dark spot in muddy water and as I was coming by had a hard hit. The fish just sat there shaking its head and finally came up. Carter freaked out a little bit which was fun and the fish just wanted to jump. Finally got her lipped and asked for the scales but the display didn't look right when I turned them on. Any way it read 9 and I could not tell the second number and I dont know if the first number was even right so who knows? I got him to snap a picture or two with my phone and we let her swim away. I don't think she was in more than about two feet of water and she absolutely choked that trap! We ended the day with that being the only big fish but lots of buck bass to keep him busy which was the main objective. We left the dam at 6 and got some supper.
