Finally! A good trip to Chickamauga. I got on the water about 10:30 and started looking for active fish as always. I went back in a slough and saw lots of bait schooled up so I tied on a white jerk bait and a swimbait. I caught some pretty good numbers on the swimbaits with the largest being about 3lbs. I backed off to the first drop working the jerkbait on the edge and in the pause I get absolutely crippled! I set the hook and the fish barely moves . My drag starts peeling off and I start thinking I've just foul hooked a big catfish emoBang. I had well over 120 yds of line on the spool and he's got me all the way down to maybe two wraps by the time I tightened the drag down some. I started chasing him with the trolling motor and finally start gaining line back ;). Ended up being a HUGE drum that would have been a hall of famer I think but with no net I didn't feel like werstling him into the boat so he got the old shake with the pliers ond off he swam. I caught a few fish deeper on a spinnerbait and moved on to another area I knew was just like this one to see if the pattern held up and it paid off. I saw a boat coming out of there and asked if they did any good and he said there were some carp back there emoScratch. Either he don't know the difference between carp flopping and bass feeding or he didn't want me fishing back there. Not like its a big secret place. I went back to the flat that is cut off by a secondary point in 5 fow and there were some BIG schooling fish back there working bait. These were bigger shad too. I caught four good fish back there and left them. I went out to the main lake point and tried the drop shot and caught 6 spots that were nearly all keepers but not very big, two more drum and one channel cat. I think they should change the name from Gulp to Junk fish magic! emoMad Great trip compared to the many other frustrating days I've had lately. Fished anywhere the trolling motor was blowing out mud and water temps were 59 to 62 degrees. Wind not bad at all and beautiful skies.
