I am having a hard hard time hooking my fish using Zooms horny toad, I'm using the horny toad hooks too. I just cannot land many fish at all.

If anyone has tips on this subject, I'd gladly appretiate it.

Thanks, Craazy

1 mississippi 2mississippi set the hook . just kidding but you do have to feel em to reel em wait wait wait yeah it is hard to but your hookup ratio will increase if you do

If you are gonna fish the toads, you are going to miss some. Like dunk said, you have got to have the restraint to wait until you feel the fish before sticking them. Of course, this is a "Do as I say, not as I do"...last time I fished them I nearly stuck myself many, many, many times with an airborne toad each time a bass boiled on it

That's the trick. You gotta wait till you feel the fish. It's hard for me to do. I also use the zoom toad and hook dragging it across mats. I have the best success with a heavy rod and braided line. Hook set is swift and hard. I usually jump higher than the fish when it blows up on the frog. Anyone fishing with me knows to duck when they hear the splash. Those frogs are hard and heavy when they smack you in the head.emoSmile

You might try a bent Kahle hook. If you can't find a bent one you can bend them yourself. I found that I got a much better hook up and I believe it is because the point of the hook only has to break through the leg and/or small portion of the hind end of the frog. I don't use Zoom Toads as much any more as I have found that others give better top water action. Try a Kahle though, I think you will see a difference. emoThumbsup

I've never looked for them to purchase around here, my dad gave me a few a while back. The bent version is the key for the toad plastics. Remember though, regardless of hook, you have to let them "take" the frog or you will miss every one.

This is what I've been using, but it still gives me a hard time hooking.
So now I'm using the toads with a trailer hook, and it has helped me out...
But next time I head to Walmart or the baitshop I'm going to get the Kahle hooks as Stump Jumper said to use.

I does a little bit, but not much.

Every strike I've had in the last 2 days were caught and hooked by the trailer hook!

But I'm going to get some Kahle hooks at Smokey Mt. Tackle, whenever I get a chance.
