I did not shoot but had a small doe in the sites. Saw nothing in the AM. The wind kept switching back on me. I heard some on the ridge behind me but they didn't show themselves. I am pretty sure they got wind of me.

The PM hunt was much better I saw one small eight pntr and five Does. Had a big covey of Quail under my stand. When I heard them coming I just knew it was the Buck I was looking for.

I know it was great sitting out there in a tree today.

How did it go for you guys?

I had to cut my hunt short yestersday due to some business that had to be taken care of, so I came down around 9:30. Had a skunk waddle across the foodplot right at daylight. Around 8:00 there were 11 turkeys fed around for about an hour. One of them had a few rounds with a fox squirrel that was entertaining. Not the first deer, though. Going to try it again this afternoon.

I did not get to go afterall but plan to go tomorrow instead. I will post a report if it is worth one.:( Jmax

I finally broke a 3 year draught . I harvested 2 does this morning in Macon Co. at about 10:00 am . Three does came in feeding on acorns . Picked out the biggest and double lung her . Watched her crashed after a 50 yd run . Looked around and the second biggest was just standing there looking where the first doe had been standing . Nocked a second arrow and let fly towards the second doe . The doe ran 20 yds before falling with a heart shot . It was a great hunt except for this crazy heat . I didn't have a dry stitch on me by the time I got the deer out . Tenderlion and mushroom gravy coming up !

Only saw a doe Saturday Morning. Sunday Morning passed on the same doe. But saw no bucks either days. I had to go to the UT game with my co-workers Saturday so, I missed one evening, but really enjoyed getting back in the trees. I am looking forward to a darker moon and some cooler nights!

TT with as dry as it has been in the woods, I think we all need pleas to a higher power. The deer are laying low near cool and water.

Sunday AM I started out in a shooting house until it got light enough to find a tree in the woods leading to the shooting house field. Found a hot trail near the creek bottoms and climbed a nice tree. I had a deer watching me climb the tree and settle in. I could hear it moving around, but it never showed itself. Approximately 30 minutes later a doe came down the trail from the field. I made a call and stopped her in her tracks at about 28 yds out. I enjoyed watching her look for me for over a half hour. She finally gave up and moved on down the trail. On the way out I was running the property line along the highway and saw a healthy little buck standing in the field watching me. He gave me a broad-side shot at 45 yds. He was a big spike or maybe a Four with brow guards. His atlanters were over a foot tall and looked as if they met at the top. He was not what I was lokking for so I watched and talked to him as he walked on.

I checked out the crossing where he crossed the road and could not believe how I could not have seen that spot before. I saw to good shooter bucks in that very same spot last year but did not go look for a trail. I have deer hunted in some awesome spots in my thirty plus years of hunting but have never ever seen a trail so heavily used as the one I have just found. There are two dirt banks where the ruts are cut down over a foot deep. The trail from the highway to the field averages about four feet wide and is thoroughly chopped up from all the fresh hoof tracks. When I get my camera back I will post pics of this trail. I will show pics to prove what I saw. It is unbelievable. It reminds me of a daily cow trail to the barn but three times wider. Many of you guys may know that deer will funnel down to a few points where they cross the road. This has to be the only crossing within miles.

I will be in one of the perfectly located white oak trees in the morning along that trail.

From what I am seeing, the deer are moving at night, bedding down at or before daylight, then moving at mid-day then settling back down in the evening. There are many deer to be seen where I hunt and this has been the case with this moon phase and the temps. So if you are getting out of your stand before noon , you are missing out on the deer movements. A suggestion for you if you do not want to sit in your stand all day is to sit in the stand until about 9:00, go to the truck and hang out, eat snooze and whatever. Get back into your stand by noon and hunt untill you kill that big one that is stirring late. That is what I plan to do tomorrow and untill the moon phase changes. I saw that good buck yesterday at about 2:00 PM. Most all the deer I have seen since last friday have all been moving mid-day.

WENT YESTERDAY FROM AROUND 6.30 TO 10.00 DID NOT SEE ANY THING DURING DAYLIGHT BUT AT DARK ALL THINGS STARTED TO MOVE ABOUT A HOUR AFTER DARK. THAT WAS MY MAIN REASON FOR THE TIME FRAME I STAYED IN THE STAND SO LONG AFTER DARK IS TO LISTEN. I WAS SITTING OVER A FOOD PLOT AND A MINERAL LICK. DID NOT DETECT ANY THING IN THE FOOD PLOT BUT THE MINERAL LICK WAS THE BUFFETT. I THOUGHT WITH LITTLE RAIN AND CLOUD COVER WE HAD THEY MIGHT STIR A LITTLE EARLY. BUT NOT HAPPENING, I GUESS THE MOON PHASE IS THE DRIVING FORCE.emoScratch

Finally got on a stand this morning but looked like I should have gone fishing. I saw a bunch of cows, two hawks, a load of crows, two squirrels, and numerous other birds but not the first deer. I stayed on the stand until noon but I guess they must have fed all night long with that full moon and bedded down this morning.;) Still it was nice and cool with a slight breeze that made it a very good morning to be in the woods.emoAngel Jmax

went this evening from around 5:00 till dark. i had a 13-14 inch 8 pointer come in around 20 yards and start feeding on acorns before the sun went down. i could hear him cracking the acorns when he would get out of sight. then toward dark i could not hear or see him . i came out of the stand and turned my flashlight on, and started toward the truck, i went about 50 yards and jumped him up i guess he had got his belly full and decided to take a good ol' nap. going back tommorrow, hopefully his big brother will be with him. emoThumbsup emoHungry

That is like my days Jmax. The bright moon is allowing the deer to feed all night. They are not in the woods right now. I have been seeing all the deer in fiends and in clear-cut areas. I did a little midday tour and had deer bleeting at me and moving everywhere in a high growth clearcut. I found fresh beds everywhere. My buddy put a ladder stand right out in the open in the middle of a clear cut and had deer all over him at dark-thirty, I saw them crossing a field wlile I was in a tree twenty yards in the woods on two HOT but unused trails.
