My wife, my neighbor and I put the boat in at Marion County Park today and went all the way to the Chick dam and i was wondering how many miles that would be. My gas tank holds 33 galons of gas and we used around 2/3rds. of a tank or around 22 galons. I wonder if this is good gas milage or bad for a 21 ft. carolina skiff boat with 3 people aboard. I don't have any idea what the mile markers are at Marion County Park or at the Chick dam. I ran the boat at around 4000-4500 rpm's, good planing speed. if anyone has any input to this, please post a reply.

Not exactly sure Doc, but it is a good little haul from down at MCP. How long did it take you roughly running at that speed? I've always been curious as to how long it would take. I'd like to take my wife sometime and ride up through the gorge around Mocc bend and up to the dam, just never have done it

Does anyone know the mile markers at the old hales Bar Dam and Chickamauga dam?

Doc - The river mile for the Jasper Day Beacon between the I24 and Hwy 41 bridges is 429.4. Hales Bar 431.1, and Chickmauga Dam 471.0. So, approximately 41.6 miles one way. If the 22 gal and 2.5 hr were for the round trip, I would say 3.8 mpg at 33.3 mph is pretty good. If it was one way, then I guess it would only be half good.

Doc, was that a one way trip or up to the dam and back to Marion Park Ramp? If that was up and back that's a pretty tood trip emoSmile

That was a round trip Hal, about 80 to 85 miles. That was a very nice ride, we took our time, stopped along the way to take a few pics and get in the shade. We had a picnic at Riverwalk and that place is fantastic, 100's of picnic tables with grilles by each of them, cleanest bathrooms I have ever been in. They also have a very nice concession area with burgers, hotdogs, frys, ice cream, cold drinks, etc. The park is a very nice place to go and lay around, playgrounds for the kiddies too. I almost forgot to mention that there are several fishing piers there too with a covered hut in the center in case it rains or you want to get out of the sun.
