I know this is a supid question but I don't really know, and it concerns the following reg. (Striped/Cherokee or Hybrid Bass – 2 per day, 15 inch
minimum length limit) If there are two of you fishing in a boat are you alowed two fish per person or is it two fish per boat. And are you allowed to have two of these bass in your boat and two more else where, (like on ice at your vehicle at the ramp)? emoScratch

All regulations regarding limits are per person. Some game wardens that want to get anal will make you keep your catch/bag separate.

If the limit is two and there are two fisherman, you could have four in the boat and it would be impossible for LE to know if one of you caught three or all four. They will count heads and fish if you know what I mean.If you take a limit and run it back to your vehicle to stash it and go back for another limit, then you are poaching.if you are checked at the ramp and you have a limit in your vehicle and a limit in yuor boat, your busted and could face not only a fine, but possibly the confiscation of your vehicle, your boat and your fishing gear as well. I don't know about you but it surely isn't worth it to me to take that kind of chance for a little extra meat.

A little advice about if an officer could know how many you caught and how many your partner did. Below Nick. Dam I have seen them sit in the parking lot above the pier with binoculars watching people. Then they go over to the other side at the ramp with their notes and write tickets for creel violations and not wearing your life jacket.

Not trying to say that you should keep more than the law allows but the law cannot confiscate your vehicle for a misdemeanor. The days of vehicles being confiscated for misdemeanor game violations have been over for years.

I don't mean to be argumentive with you fellows, and I understand a fisherman is only allowed two fish. ( a field ) but, than the rules say if I read them correctly that the " possesion limit is twiced the creel limit ", If you have two more fish on ice in your vehicle and two more in the creel. How can both areas be concidered the creel I thought that the creel was in the case of your boat, what could be found in the boat, livewell ect...... emoScratch

Oops...I had the permissions messed up on this new forum category. I have disabled that feature. Guests used to be able to post anonymously when CFF first started, but I quickly learned that was not a good idea after a few hilarious super crude anon posts were made.

i was not aware of the difference between the creel and possession limit. That must be a question for matt majors because what you say makes sense.

We do need clarification on "possession limits". I always thought that if there were 2 of you fishing, you kept 4 Stripers, then your partner left and gave you the 2 he had that it would be legal for you to take 4 home according to the possession limit. But thats just the way that I understood it, I may be wrong.

Assuming you didnt reenter the water to fish after your partner left.

Generally, you may be afield with two day's limit. If you and a partner catch 4 fish and he gives them to you in the parking lot and you take them home you are safe. DO NOT BE ON THE WATER, with four fish by yourself, no matter what. This applies to all fish creel limits for non-commercial anglers.

sidebar: Do not catch three fish (Stripers) if your partner is in the boat with you. You still are only allowed to harvest two fish personally per day...........

Thanks Carl, I understand what you are saying. But, according to the possession rule" twice the creel limit", Would you and your partner not be legal, leaving the parking lot with eight(8) fish(strippers, ect)? If you are in the parking lot, and of course, not on the water, is this not possession? If it is, than the only way you could do this and I would never do it myself, emoBigsmile, would be to catch your limit, take them to your vehicle, put them on ice and than return to catch your limit again. I guess the question here is, where does creel end and where does possession begin.......emoConfused

True story from the game warden.

A fellow was fishing Junior lake after the trout stocking. He watched him make three trips to the truck then confronted him. The guy had 21 trout in a cooler.

I would bet that a good warden would note any vehicle in the lot with a cooler. If it was a truck and the cooler was in the open, I would think he could take a look. If he found fish in the cooler, I'm sure he would wait for the culprits to return.

For what it is worth...... A creel limit is per day, if you are camping and put one days catch in a cooler along with the previous days catch, that is possession. If you leave your boat and or the bank and place a limit in a cooler in your truck and return to catch another limit, it is a violation with some steep penalties....( should be 11/29)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not one to start an arguement , but yes you can have your boat/vehicle seized for a misdemeanor violation of certain game infractions.

They can take it but they can't keep it unless the crime is a felony. Just like a DUI they impound the vehicle if you are arrested but must give it back when you make bail.
