is Too Old?
Last night I finished up the last of some chicken I BBQed in the crock pot - had fresh corn on the cob, string beans cooked with ham and potato salad. It was great.
Two weeks ago I dug around in the freezer for some chicken to cook. I usually keep things rotated pretty good but I found two big packs of frozen chicken breasts that had gotten way back in the corner. The sell by date on them was July, 2003! Each pack was about five pounds.
I let them thaw expecting them to smell rancid but there was no smell. I put half in a big crock pot with Cream of Mushroom Soup and half in another crock pot with BBQ sauce, added a pack of leg quarters to each (had to buy them) and let them cook. Been eating them for two weeks - no off flavor at all.
These breasts were Sanderson Farms in the sealed plastic bags. No air so no freezer burn.
Would you cook and eat meat that had been in the freezer for five years?
