Aoright guys I've had some good laughs over the last few years reading some of the things people do. In all fairness, since some of you guys have admitted to doing embarrasing things I'll just hop on the band wagon. emoRedface I got my new trolling motor in yesterday and had a couple hours of daylight left to pull the swap. no problem right? just remove the old and mount the new emoLaugh I ended up having to cut the bolts by hand with a hacksaw blade because the toggle bolts used to mount the thing were rusted up and wouldnt back off. I got that out of the way and set the new motor down and got it bolted in place. I had already changed my battery jumper so I knew I had 24V out and re-checked it at the plug. emoThumbsup This aint so bad! decided before I buttoned EVERYTHING up I would try it out so I temporarily wired up the plug, hooked it up and pushed the button on the foot switch......... emoEek Nothing but the directional indicator on the head lights up. HOLY CRAP!!! emoMad I had no idea what I could have done wrong and started tracing to what it sould be. (You know a MotorGuide has a 5 speed selector switch and also has a O position) Quick end of story it took me 40 minutes until I knocked the foot switch over and saw it was turned OFF. emoZipped That trolling motor worked like a champ once I switched it to a speed setting. How stupid can you be sometimes??? Just thought I would share with everyone and thanks for all the laughs I've got from here. emoDoh emoThanks

That's funny, when I first bought my boat I took it out and I couldn't figure out why the trolling motor was so strong even at its lowest setting?? I had never had a 24 volt trolling motor before I just had to switch it to 12 volt and was happy right? It took me 3 trips out and griping about it for the guy that was fishing with me to say just flip this switch. That was pretty bad so I feel your pain.

Been there.....done that. Try going to the lake, boat wont do a dang thing, no matter what I do. Get home, realize kill-switch was knocked off ignition. :(

That's reminds me of last year when I had tied a custom made, one of a kind, Azel Burrows night time spinner-bait to the tag line of my not & threw it in the wateremoGoofy . Picked up my rod ready to fish, guess what? Spinner-bait is on the bottom of the lake! emoBang And you can't even buy another one like it!emoBawl

Charlie, I hope you like your new 24 Volt T-motor. I know you will.emoThumbsup

Haha, My neighbor who bought my old bass boat did the same thing last weekend. He came home and said the trolling motor on this thing is weak as can be, won't hardly move the boat. I pushed the button and nothing, I asked him was it on, he just looked at me like I was an idiot, I switched the button on and she worked like a champ, he looked embarrassed, I just laughed.

And thats such a bad feeling ain't it? I've done the samething emoRedface

Glad I ain'tnever done those dumb things. Like getting a free up-right air compessor. Wiring it up....only getting a little air pressure. Take the motor off...have it checked.....take the compressor off...had it rebuilt...SAME thing. Read specs....well I'll be &%^$...this thing is a 220. emoBang

Had a friend call me a few weekends ago and tell me the trollin motor was done. He fooled around with it awhile and desided to trailer it and go home. He then calls me and says he must have hit that switch with his foot.Theres nothin wrong with it at all. emoBang

Getting a head start I put my running lights on in the garage then pulled out --- snap!!!!

Had a nice demo ride when i bought new 188vs. Put it on the trailer and the next morning I had no power. One quick call to the dealer and I was good to go...never knew they had a master electric switch that the dealer suggests you turn off when you tarp it up in case you hit any of the rocker switches. Im a Loser!

Got to try the new trolling motor yesterday and its a beast! I ran it on the lowest setting the whole time and it pulled harder than my 12V 46lb thrust did on 3 or 4 setting. Decided to try out speed setting 5 for the fun of it and my god I could pull a tube with that thing!

I was on the lake with my buddy in his 50HP bass tracker on our first trip out last year. Boat started right up and across the lake we went. Stopped at our first spot, fished for a while, then decided to move, hit the starter switch, boat wouldn't start. tried over and over again and the motor just turned over and over. I ask my buddy if he had hit the kill switch, he looks, says no. Tried starting some more....He finally says that the plugs must to failed from old gas or something. We change the plugs out while on the water. Tried to start again, still the motor just turned over and over. I ask again are you sure the kill switch is not on. Again,he looks and says, know it's not. Tried motor again and again and still want start....After scratching our heads for a while I reached over and flipped the kill switch the other direction and motor started right up on first try. We changed the plugs out on the lake and sat there for over a hour and nothing was wrong except he had hit the kill switch.

I've done that myself. My kill switch was just barely off of the "run" position but looked ok. Nearly headed back home but decided to try that. The switch barely even moved but it had the contact held open.

Was out in the gulf in Fla last Sat. We filled up the boat and set out to troll for mackeral went out 20 min to reef, started to troll, then this harsh beeping noise started. We shut her off, cranked agian, was spitting water ?
Hey did youput oil in the oil resevoir?.....Uh no? We found a qt under the life vests and she ran. Stopped two other boats to ask and guess what they both had 4 strokes. Next time there will be 12 gallons of oil in the boat. emoBang

Don't feel bad, "it" happens. emoAngel I got tickled once at a couple guys who were trolling to the landing that I was watching. I just happened to be watching two guys who had trolled about a half mile as I was fishing and kept looking up at them coming my way. When they finally got to where I was I asked was their big motor out? The guys replied no but said their trolling motor was new and would not come up, it had got stuck down. emoScratch I told him that really did not make any sense and asked him to show me what he was doing. He grabbed the rope and pulled like mad, the motor did not move an inch. I politely told him to step on the bracket to put pressure where the pin was and when he did it released it just fine. His buddy cracked up laughing and the guy just said a few choice words and then thanked me for showing him that. emoRedface emoLaugh I guess the guy had never had a new trolling motor and was not aware the thing would be very tight and how to get it to release. emoRolleyes Jmax

I was launching one morning. There was a spare tire on a rim laying on the ramp. I set it to the side thinking the owner would want to recover it. That afternoon when loading up I discovered that it was my tire that had come loose from my trailer and it was long gone. A couple of hundred bucks down the drain.
