how to verify if my system is setup for 24 volt trolling motor

behind the plug there is 3 wires gonig into the switch.. back at the battery I have a red and white postive wire and one negative wire.. I am assuming this has the capicty to run 24 volt by jumping the negative terminals on each battery. Can anyone confirm if I am correct..and if it is only 12 volt why would i have the other white wire attached to the postivie wire</p>

Is there a short jumper on the battery?? Ususally it will use a common ground. At the outlet it will be black then the the red will go on the positive of the battery the ground is on (12v) then a jumper will go from that positive to the negative of the other battery, the positivewill go to a orange wire that will will go to the outlet. This will cause you to have 12 between red and black and 24V between black and orange. Hope this helps!!!

Orange is another common color. subsitute orange for white in my post!!! Sorry LOL!!!
