YESSSS! I finally finished! It's hard to work on something like this in 28 degree weather and darkness.

It went well. . . I had to re-glue the transducer today after warming the transducer mount and the area of the boat up with a heat-gun. I tried last night but it was too cold for the JB weld to stick.

I siliconed the wires under the rail which is holding very nicely, then I ran the power cables under the transom and nailed them in with coaxial cable clamps. You can't see any cables inside the boat unless you get down low - like in the floor.

So that I didn't have to do some crazy fabrication to the unit mount I ordered a RAM mount but instead of getting the typical base I got a U-bolt mount. I drilled out one of holes to the same diameter as the oar holder, stuck a bolt in then cranked that sucker down with red locktite. It was the easiest thing on the whole project.

I was able to use the transducer cable clamps provided by humminbird on the existing transom screws which helped secure the loose transducer cable. Let's all pray that the transducer is mounted properly because it will have to be broken off at this point :)

So here they are, in no particular order:

UPDATE:

I went outside to install the rubber spacer on the transducer and when I clicked the transducer up the whole mount fell off. Glue never seems to work for anything! I guess now I have no option but to bolt it down. emoBang

What do you all use to seal the threads up?

no way I`d put a hole below the water line....get you a piece of 1" aluminum angle and mount it up in the part of the transom that has the wood reinforcment....drill 2 holes 2-4 inches apart where the bolt will go thru the woodbacking. make the angle long enough to mount your `ducer down in the water. I`d find a little piece of soft rubber and just wedge it behind the angle toward the bottom to keep it from vibrating from the current under the boat.
I did this on my little boat many years ago.....I think I used a piece of an old bed frame I had laying around. But a nice 12-15 inch long piece of a aluminum angle wood look better.

Good thinking, but I'm trying to keep the installation as invisible as possible. I don't want something that will detract from the image of the boat. I don't mind putting holes below the water line if they're properly sealed.

Anyone around here that's done a few of these willing to help me out Friday after 5PM? I want to get this thing wet Saturday morning.

find some one who is good at welding aluminum and have them weld small bolts to the hull where you want your transducer. weld the with the head to the transom threads pointing out then all you have to do is side the mount over the bolts put a nut and a washer on it and tightin it up. no holes and can be ground off it you wanted to remove. just a idea

they would have to be aluminum bolts and the weld around the base would prevent the mount from becoming flush with the transom. I'm going to need some 3M 4200 to seal up the threads. Does anyone know where to get it? Lowe's and Home Depot don't carry it.

Found the 4200 at academy sports which happened to be my first stop! Now I'm going to buy a lottery ticket.

Going to drill then bolt. Stay tuned after the break for more pictures and details.

Well, it's finished. I grabbed some stainless bolts from Ace Hardware and let the drill turn :( It's not too bad. I sealed it up with 3M 4200 quick-set so it should cure by Saturday morning. (takes 24 hours in 70-degree weather add more time for colder)

The most important thing to me is the '57 motor anyway. Two little bolts in the hull won't hurt my feelings as much as a scratch on the outboard.
