Just installed the 797 C2 Side Imaging unit on my boat this evening and had to go try it out. I am a believer ! It was absolutely amazing the bottom detail you can see with this unit. It is just like seeing an actual photo of the bottom for about 150 feet on either side of the boat. You could see stumps and road beds and brush piles and tell exactly what they were. You can even see fish... It absolutely takes the guess work out of what you are seeing on the graph. The only drawback is that you have to be moving 2 - 6 mph for it to get the best detail - but you can actually mark things you see as a way point by moving the cursor over it and come back to it.

I was in such a hurry to get to the lake to try it out, I forgot to take my memory card with me but after my next trip I'll have some photos to post.

That is a winner of a unit.  I would love to upgrade to that one.  I have and use an old vintage Hummingbird wide eye.  I have had it for over twenty years and it still kicks fish fanny.  Side view is the way to go for seeing and following schooling fish.  Keep us informed. Thanks for sharing.

No doubt bow vol I have read LL's posts about the side imaging and it got my curiosity up. I have done a lot of research and read a lot of reviews about side imaging. LL tears up some fish with his and I can only imagine what another 20 years of technology would add to the picture.
Congratulations! Let us know how it works with pics and all. There are a few guys on the BOC that have them and they download images directly to their posts from them. Too cool!

Been using mine for about 3 months. Shhhhhhhhhhh! Don't let the secret out emoLaugh ! I love it. For high speed use, you need to get the humminbird highspeed transducer and switch. They failed to tell that to me when I bought mine. It is great for finding structure. You can find brushpiles, humps not on maps, creek channels, balls of bait fish stick out like crazy! I have even been able to zoom into some very large cats on the bottome and they are clear as day.... I would suggest you get a free account on Yahoo and type hummin bird side imaging. There is a user group there and they are loads of help.

It's posts like this that cost me a lot of $$ and make my wife mad, very mad. If you wind up posting pictures showing how great the unit is, I will definitely be in trouble, so for the sake of saving my marriage and my son eating, don't tell me how great the unit is. I would prefer something like "It's a piece of junk, wouldn't waste my money". ;)
