Ok I got my 1198 and navionics hotmaps platinum east today. (Thanks to DJs Marine electronics) He was awesome to deal with and got my unit and mapping in one day. Now I need to know how to get started on the computer with navionics. I registered and updated my navionics card and downloaded the pc app for navionics. Its my understanding that now I should be able to view the mapping on my pc and check it out and even make waypoints if so desired but I cant figure out how to get it started, any help from some of you guys with experience would be greatly appreciated.

Tommy, if you've downloaded it onto your PC, you should be able to go into "Programs" and launch it from there (if you didn't have it put an icon on your desktop). When you open it up, it'll search for updates. When I first downloaded the PC app, it took FOREVER due to the file size. Updates can take a long time too.

Hope this helps but if not, let me know.

Besides the nice app that Navionics gives your through their online web store, there is another separate software package called Navionics NavPlanner 2 available through other channels. Just Google or Yahoo! search Navionics NavPlanner 2 and you can find a few different ways to get it. That's software that installs the traditional way off a DVD disc and includes lots of extra Navionics charts beyond what you have on your current Navionics card.

I mention NavPlanner 2 because it can take your Humminbird 1198 waypoints and routes exported on to a CF-card or SD-card and show them on your charts seen inside NavPlanner 2. And you can do the reverse: send waypoints and routes you make in the software back over to the memory card, then you pop that into the Humminbird 1198 and have it load up the data from the card. So that feature might be a big value for you depending on what you need to do.
