Humminbird, as you all know by now, has added the Helix 9, 10 and 12 units to the existing family of Helix 5 and 7.

The Helix 9. 10 and 12 have all the capabilities of the old 800, 900 and 1100 series and network capability between the two series. Thus you can network a Helix 9 to any Helix 9, 10 or 12 and also to an 800, 900 or 1100 unit to share waypoints and transducers.

The new Helix series boast a 50% brighter screen, a 25% faster processor and wider screens.

Availability on the 9 and 10 should be mid November - early December with the 12 available by February 2016.

CHIRP is different frequencies than standard "sonar" , 50, 83 or 200khz. Instead, CHIRP gives you three different ranges of low, medium and high to achieve better separation and clarity of the targets. Several manufacturers offer these different ranges one at a time or all together. Humminbird and Lowrance offer CHIRP for "sonar" only; Garmin came out this year with CHIRP for sonar as well as downvue and sidevue. Hopefully Humminbird and Lowrance will catch up soon at a more affordable price
