Well I'm about to be away from the computer for 2 weeks starting on the 28th. Heading to Camp Lejeune, NC to do a 400 acre land survey. This is going to rack me up some serious OT, and the fiance said I better buy what I want before we get married!!!

So I am looking at purchasing a Hummingbird 797 c2 SI... who here has one, or had one? A few questions...

[*]How is the SI detail on the smaller screen? (I love Minner's 900 series)[*]If you are a Stratos owner, was the mounting difficult or akward?[*]What are the drawbacks?[*]Used properly, has this been a "must have" or just a "nice toy"?[*]Has your fishing improved with the SI?[*]What is the difference in the c2 and c2i models?[/list]

Installation should be ok, as I have resident boat mechanic Minner ready to help.

Thanks for any tips/help!!!

As Fuzzy said, drop any of us (they know a LOT more than I do put I can tell you what I have learned) an email. This is one amazing little rig. You'll love it.

I am close to getting one as well. Will someone please post a pic the preloaded map of Chickamauga or Watts Bar? Just take a few pics of the unit next time you are on the water if you can. I would like to see the depth and contour lines on the map...and would also be interested in images of the split screen map & color sonar as well. I know I can see these on other forums but wanted to see the local lakes if possible. Thanks!

You got it David. The thing with the contour lines is that you can zoom in really close or zoom out. I am using Hotmaps Premium which has pretty dang good detail. The thing I like is that I can map study at home, without actually being on the lake. Just turn it on and use the cursor to examine the place you plan to fish, look at the contour, structure and channels.

The new 08 Chip is supposed to have greater detail of the Decatur Flats on Wheeler. That gives me chill bumps...

When I buy mine, i'm I'm going to have all of it pre-loaded for me. It's only 200 more dollars for 1700 bucks worth of maps. Now if my banker will get on the ball so I can get this thing ordered. I'm going to go ahead and order a 777c for the front of the boat to with it. I'm pumped!!

Before you guys order you might want to check with CFF sponsors and support them keeping your business local if possible. I plan to check to see if they can match the price of online retailers before I order mine in a couple weeks. emoThumbsup

I have the 777, and i bought the quadrabeam transducer, and I love it....also got my 797 today, can't wait to hook it upemoHungry of course it would get cold now, and chance of snowemoBang Guess I'll have to bundle up

I think these units are awesome and I would love to have one myself (maybe in the near future). I do not stock these on the shelf at Smokey Mountain Tackle Co. but I can order them and have them at our store within a couple of days (if they are in stock at the distributors warehouse). I checked yesterday and there were 2 with the maps pre-loaded and 2 without the preloaded maps in stock. I can typically match prices on items like these so please give me a call if you are wanting to buy one.

Here is some food for thought. I spoke with my distributor this morning about the units and the pre-loaded map bundles. Although it is attractive to get all the maps pre-loaded there is a couple of drawbacks according to him.

First drawback is that the pre-loaded maps cannot be updated so as updates become available you couldn't get them.

Second drawback he said was that the pre-loaded maps are a little slower responding on the harddrive than the individual map chips.

This is what I was told not what I've experienced. You might want to investigate further if you're thinking about this option. I agree that it sounds like a deal though.
