Fished with ashtrey in the USA Bassin / STNA Division T today on the Chick. We launched from Grasshopper in heavy fog and shot straight across the river into Sale Creek. Our first stop was a channel swing bank loaded with laydowns. Three casts into the day, ashtrey swung our first keeper into the boat. It was all downhill from there. We stayed and made several passes with quite a few fish, but all were just short. ashtrey's keeper fell for a jig, but most of the rest went for a DJW buzzbait or Sammy knock-off (I order the bodies, then hang the hooks and split rings on them ... $4 vs. $20 ... hmmm, what would you do?).
Once the sun climbed, the wind began to blow ... then blow some more ... and then even harder for good measure. We mostly tried staying out of the wind just working jigs into laydowns. We went until almost weigh-in before I caught our second - and last - keeper on a Spotsticker almost within sight of the ramp. Our winner's bag was 9 and change with 4 keepers. flip brought the BF to the scales ... a hefty LM that pushed 5. I know that I personally caught and released 9 lbs of fish that were all between 14.5 and 14.9999999999999999999999 inches long.
Gale force winds aside, it was a beautiful day to be out. Early this AM, ashtrey and I stopped fishing and just watched a doe swim across Sale Creek. I enjoyed seeing everyone and look forward to the fifth and final event of the series next month on the Big G.
