The crappie have moved into the 1' to 3' range holding tight in brush and stumps. They were not in old faithfull in numbers today.

If you want to catch good fish to photo, just forget to bring your camera. I caught the blackest crappie I have ever seen twice today. He was right at about 10". He may have been legal but he was way too pretty to kill. His entire face was black and the black extended to his pectorals.

Caught and released a yellow Perch, A big Shinner, Sun Perch, Shell crackers, several big hand sized Bluegills, Three LM Bass, Yellow Stripe galore and little crappie.
Brought home my limit of mostly black Crappie. None less than 11". That is my own minimum size for crappie ( Most of the time).

Good report, Liveliner. Yep, the males are at peak as far as black color goes. 11" is also my standard size limit unless there isn't any in that range to be caught. I have 2 livewells in my boat. I put the 11" and over in the front well, and 10" in the rear well. When I reach a limit and catch another 11" crappie, it goes in the front well, and I release 1 from the rear well. I mark them down on a pad so that I can keep up with the numbers. Don't want Matt Major catching me with one too many. emoBigsmile When I get all of the little ones culled, then I tranfers all the crappie from the front well to the rear well, counting again as I go, to make sure that I'm not over limit. Then it is catch and release the rest of the day. emoGeezer

As good as you all catch crappie .. I think you should set a 12" limit on yourselves. hahahahaha

Save those little suckers for us less talented fishing persons.
