I just picked up my Fal Al special. I know the pictures will not do it justice, but here goes.

It comes with a "catch fish" guarantee.

Nice looking stick Tony ... as usual, FA did it right. Gotta love that TN handle - the only way to go on a fairy wand. emoThumbsup

I need to brag on him too, I got mine from him a couple of weeks a go and I wrapped mine with red tape, you can really feel a bite on them, mighty sesitive. I broke mine in on a sauger and some stripe.

Doc1,

I plan on breaking mine in on anything that bites.
I think a small mouth will look good at the end of the rod.
I can assure you I will not throw anything off the hook on purpose.

Dumb question, what is the blue tape looking stuff wraped around the reel seat? And what purpose does it serve? I know this is a rookie question, sorry.

No problem there rookie......the Tennessee handle is all cork, it doesn't have a fixed reel seat.... so when you attach the spinning reel you must tape in on the handle....1st you use nylon re-enforced tape and then you use 3-m electrical tape ...that's what the blue tape is....FA

Mallardecho:

If you look at rods, it is not uncommon to see black tape on rods and reels. Since FA is such a professional, he wanted to match the tape to wrap, so he went with blue. Also, I wanted to look good as I pull in record fish.emoCool

OK, i have another ? If the rod has reel seats and someone puts the tape on them anyway, does this help the rod, reel, or feeling in any way? I have seen many such rigs and just curious.

Mallard, the only thing that the electrical tape does to the rods with a reel seat is it makes them warmer to your hand.

I guess it could help the feel as it would make it a more solid than just the reel seats. I would also think the real reason would be to cover the gaps or smooth the ridges that are created with the seats which would make it more comfortable for a long day on the lake.

you can probably get it HOME DEPOT OR LOWES.....all you need to secure the reel to handle is 2 strips about 4 inches long It is 3/4 wide.and then use the electrical tape......works wonders...FA
