Due to the design of the new i-pilot models, a lot of installers are having a hard time on certain bow configurations. It seems to get the motor mount up far enough over the bow to deploy, they are unable to get but two or three mounting bolts installed instead of the normal 6 provided. Owners have also found out that the mount sticks out so far over the bow that it can hinder boat launches and can generally get in the way.
Minn Kota motors has evidently acknowledged their design flaw by coming out with a brand new mounting bracket for the i-Pilot that allows you to slide the entire mount forward before deployment.
It is advertised as a Universal Mounting Bracket that allows you to easily switch between cable steer and electric steer motors, so you can choose the right trolling motor for the application. Innovative positioning mechanism allows motor to slide inboard (up to 6") for additional clearance when launching boat, or outward 6" to facilitate deployment.
The new product is MKA-47 with a list price of $149.95. ( I know where you can get one for less)
So if you are thinking about purchasing an i-Pilot you may have to consider this mounting bracket also to facilitate installation.
