I stopped by the grocery store on my way home from work this afternoon. Ran into a guy that lives a couple of miles on up the road. He asked me "How big was that buck that the Jenkins boy hit down by your house?". I replied that I didn't know that one had been hit. He told me about where the boy had said that it was, so when I got home I walked up that way and sure enough, there was the remnants of a NICE buck laying in the ditch about 75 yards past my driveway. One antler was gone, and the other was broken near the tip, but there was still enough left of it to see that he was a good deer. I'm afraid that it was the buck that I saw about a month ago crossing the road one morning on my way fishing. He looked like he was just starting to shed his velvet this week.

I reckon' that's the breaks!

man, sorry to hear about that. As sad as it is, i guess thats the way it goes sometimes. Maybe hes got a big brother out there waitin on ya!

And even worse, TN has a "roadkill" law that would have allowed that all that great meat could have been eaten.  Now that was a real waste.

Cars kill more deer each year than us hunters do. Sorry to hear about the loss, but chances are his genetics are roaming around the woods around your house. I know there have always been some good bucks in the Sherwood area.

A couple of years ago I was behind a pick-up that hit a big doe. She started out in front of him and his headlight KO'ed her noggin'. No hemmorage at all in the body. The guy never stopped, and the doe died pretty quick. After a quick call to the local game warden she was in the freezer. Mighty tasty, as I recall.

I took a head injury killed doe from AEDC a couple years ago.  Approved by the base police.  It almost tore the fender off a small import that hit it.  They did not want it but I did.

That is usually how the bigs get killed. The big ones go under ground until hunting season is over with.emoLaugh
