I need to learn to weld for my own use. I'm not getting into the business I just have always wanted to learn. I'm looking for a professional welder to give me lessons once a week or so. I was thinking $40 a lesson I supply rods, wire, gas ect. Pm me if interested. Cleveland area.

There some awesome YouTube videos that will get you started. Check out the ones posted by weld.com

In all seriousness, get a mig welder like the power mig 210MP by lincon it has all the suggested setting programmed into the screen for each size and position, and just get some steel and start practicing, mig is easy and better results then a stick welder because the process is cleaner, welding flat is easy up hill is harder and over head is a pain when you are first starting.. This welder is also easy to take out in the field or over to a buddy's house to do quick work, its set up for dual power supply so you can plug it up anywhere , even more if you get a roll of flux core...
Getting good at welding is more about practicing with it with just a little instruction and as said you can get that off the Tube...

I agree. Mug welding is by far the easiest and in most cases cleanest. If you have a flux core with argon gas setup there's no slag to clean off of your bead. Lowes has a couple nice 120V models. I use one at work. I don't have to use it often, but I have it when needed. As far as the hood goes, you can go as cheap or as extravagant as you want. In my opinion there's no need to buy a high dollar auto dimmer if you don't weld for a living.

Okay I'll look for a MIG weld machine. I was planning on scouring Craigslist to see what might be available.
