So last June my wife entered the Battle at the River in the figure competition. She got 2nd in the novice. She had to do some strick dieting and working out to get there. So at the end of June last year I got to thinking and decided to clean up my diet and see what would happen. Last year I weighted in close to 220 lbs on my crappy scales at home.

After not weighening myself for months I decided to see where I was this week. 186 lbs on the same scales placed on the same spot as last year. So in just over a year I have gotten rid of 25+ lbs (scale is not the best so I am conserative at 25 lbs). Unreal. Went from a tight 38 to a comfortable 36 (could probably got o 34 in some brands)in the waist and you know you did something when you have to buy smaller underwear. I am within 10 lbs of weighing what I did in Jr college when I was in the best shape of my life (at the ripe old age of 19 back then).

Iwilll say it was 100% diet. I had been doing P90X for a year a half with little results before last June. Diet, diet, diet is the only way to get where you want to be. And diet does not mean eating less, it means eating right.

This fall I am going hardcore to get ride of the last 10. I will let you know how it goes.

Well said, I went from 280 to 190 in about a year and a half. I probably eat just as much as I did before, I just eat the right food now.

Had to purchase a pair of slacks in early March. I was astounded that I could no longer wear a size 38. Found a scale the next day...231 lbs. I am now down to 190. Although I still eat what I like, I don't eat it in the quantities I used to. I go to the track 7 days a week. I go twice a day during the work week. Weight training is extremely important. The larger the muscles, the more calories you burn. My goal is to get to 170 lbs.

There's only one tried and true way to lose weight. Burn off more than you take in.

Agree. It is a thermodynamics issues. You have to burn more than you consume or you will not lose weight. It is a lot easier to eat right than to try to burn off 500-1000 extra calories per day.

Plus eating bad foods does a lot of other damage than just to the waist line.

Yep I agree with everybody about burning more then you take in. I have been watching my diet and working out 5-7 days a week since January 1 and have lost 75 lbs. All with just a little cardio every day and not eating the bad stuff. I eat smaller portions but I now fill up faster and feel better then I did before.

Update: I am now wearing 34 waist pants. Still have about 5 lbs to go to be where I want to be. My plan is to be less than 185 (on my new scales) by Thanksgiving and be closer to 180 by Christmas (I am now at 189). Feels good to wear 34 pants again after not being able to fit in them for 17 years. I may get enough never to post in a pic at Thanksgiving.

Wiskers you inspired me. I have gone from 248 to 224 in the last couple of months, down 24 lbs. I was wearing a size 36 but I am now back in my old size pants of 34 also. My back does not hurt as much or as often. Get the weight off and you just feel better. emoAngel Jmax
