Initial HBird set up help question PLEASE

I'm basically technically challenged and need a SIMPLE way to use my new Humminbird 788ci hd unit.
Would someone simply tell me how to set the thing so that when I turn it on I'll have about 1/2 screen with GPS and 1/2 screen to read the bottom.
Also, I hate reading directions as they seem to confuse my already confused mind even more. My unit came with a CD and I can print out the directions if necessary but it'd ruin my reputation.
Any help will be much appreciated.

There's no simple way. Afraid you're gonna have to read the instructions or just hit the "View" button till it comes up. Takes about 3 seconds.</p>

You should be able to just hit the View button till you get to the screen you want. Once you have it, press and hold one of the buttons with a dot on it. If it works like my 798, it'll program that button to that particular view. Then you can just press that button to get the screen you want without scrolling through the different views.

I'm still trying to figure mine out too. I'm just getting on the water an playing with it. You may also want to check out some of the vids on youtube.

It worked for me too. It'd be nice to have a manual, all I got with the purchase of the unit was a CD and to print the manual it's 69 pages of print.
I've asked Humminbird to send me one, maybe they will and I'll actually read the dang thang. emoBang
