Bought a new HB 798 fishfinder and need to install on my boat. I'm undecided on whether to mount the transducer on the back or on the trolling motor. I'm thinking about the TM so I can see where I AM instead of where I've been. But then again, want to mount on back so I can use the mapping when I'm running. I won't be able to afford another fishfinder for a while so I want to install where it'll make the most sense. I currently have an HB 565 up front and the Lowrance X37TX, that came on the boat, on back.

Hoping go get some thoughts and advice. This is all still pretty new to me.

Thanks.

may want to consider linking the HB you have to the new one, I think that the your mapping will work on both. I may be wrong but I believe that is right.

It would depend on your ability to see the screen. If your boat is not real big you may be able to install the base unit where you can see it from the console and from the front deck as well. You could install a switch that lets you use two transducers. One on the troller for fishing and one on the transome for running. This may not be the best set up for you. You are the only one that can decide that but it is the least expensive way to go. If you have a unit already and it was me. I would install the 798 on the console and move the other unit to the troller. It is nice to idle across a flat or point with the big motor and be able to see if there are fish there. I dont waste time fishing spots that I dont see fish on. JMHO
