I had a seminar in Charleston, WV Wed & Thurs.  During a break, I was talking fishing with one of my students and asked him if they had good smallmouth fishing around there.  He mentioned a river nearby and said it used to have good smallmouth but now was mostly spots!  Fancy that!

Alan, I really appreciate all that you have done to get the spot limit raised to 15 below Chickamauga dam. Hopefully, you or we can get the area extended further down the river system. But, if fishermen don't start taking these spots out, all this will be moot. I for one, plan to fish 1 day per week at the Riverpark and fish for the spots. I'm not going to work at it, but these spots are pretty easy to catch. The rest of the time, I will be chasing crappie in the lake.

Eat More Spots!
If Fat Albert, you and I can get together again like we did last year, we can put a little dent in the spots anyway.

I plan to do my part as the weather and work permit. Sallie and I would rather eat the spots than crappie or catfish. Now that the limit is 15 it will be worth the 50 mile drive for us to go after them. emoThumbsup

Although I harbor alot of disdain for spotted bass, I couldn't bring myself to killing one intentionally. Too bad there's not a predator fish that dines on them exclusively.

Actually Carl, the only fish I eat has Long John Silvers on the package. I hate the "fishy" taste.

If your fish are "fishy" tasting, then they are not being cleaned the proper way. Send me a pm if you are interested and I will tell you how I clean fish so that the fishy taste is never there. Including catfish, regardless of size. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

A friend of mine told me that while he was out fishing yesterday below the River Park, he saw a pile of about 6-7 spotted bass lying high up on a bank. I wonder where MadBomber was yesterday?emoScratch emoBigsmile emoBigsmile

Spots are dumb enough, they may have heard about the new limits and figured it would be easier to kill themselves, rather then try and avoid being caught and fried.emoBigsmile

Can you have the fish grilled without the fishy taste, i would eat more fish if it were'nt for the fishy taste but i have to stay away from fried foods as much as possible

Yea, I just saw the post by 3391 and changed my comment. I didn't see it before I made that joke and wasn't trying to start anything. emoSorry emoGoofy

You shouldn't have to change what you post because you think someone's looking over your shoulder. You can beleave someone's looking over his too.

You're right and I usually could care less what anyone thinks. However, I wasn't worried about 3391...just didn't want the MB po'd about it because I said that BEFORE reading the other post. It's still funny though. emoTongue
