Thats a good lookin` engine Fishnrod....if it runs good I believe I`d just hang on to it. I don`t know how much it weighs but I don`t think you can get a new one the isn`t at least 50 lbs heavier. Since Merc has gone to the 3 liter block I believe they all weigh a shade over 500lbs. The Mariner may be in the 450 range...I`m not sure though. I don`t know if Merc Racing even makes a Lightweight Big Block anymore......short of a pure racing engine. I`m sure you know the the Ally`s are weight sensitive.
Now if you decide to go with the 300 xs you probably would gain some. The 225xs weighs the same.emoBigsmile

How much you want for it? Have you ever changed head gaskets? What is the compression? Do you use high test gas? What kind of oil do you use in it? Does it have external fuel pump? External trim pump?

Don't take all my questions the wrong way,,,,I may be interested

Give us a price. does it come with prop & controls. Don't like to go fast all the time but I do some of the time.emoPolice

I haven't decided yet what price i will ask until i have time to check on some new motor prices. I can assure you all of one thing, if i can't get a better price than Nichol's marine quoted me for a new one i will not be selling my motor. New motors are totally over priced and mine is in great shape and never been mistreated. I do appreciate the interest and replies and i will post it if and when i decide to upgrade to a new motor.
