Got my wife one of these for Christmas (the 16Gig version) and all I can say is amazing. The thing will hold around 2000 songs at 256 and 4000 at 128, don't know about you but I don't think that together my wife or I have 2000 songs total. Unreal how good Apple has made this product. I will probably get one for myself, maybe the IPOD Touch, not sure yet. The amazing part is how small it is. Very thin and light. The screen is color and seems pretty high rez. You can even put movies, videos, pictures, etc on it. Itunes is Apple's download store/software and is pretty slick. They have most everything including some very rare Parliament and Fundadelic albums (if you know what these are then we need to go fishing). Bottom line I loaded about 60% of my wifes CD's on it and it only took about 33% of its space. Unreal. Now she can take all of her CD's (and most of mine) with her when she works out, drives, etc.

I think my days of carrying around books of CD's are nearing an end.

ipods are great, and if you don't want to fool with itunes or whatever and have mass quanities of vids, songs, etc. on your PC, check out the freeware from floola. It basically syncs everthing on your PC to your ipod w/o it having to be in that funky aipd format or whatever the default format for ipods are... P funk?? thats what I'm talking aboutemoSmile emoSmile

If you think the Ipods are neat, try their computers. I have a background with Microsoft and two IT degrees. I got so frustrated with the nuisance compatibility issues as an IT tech and then a network engineer. I took a walk on the wild side a fear years ago and bought a Imac. Never had a problem in 2 years. Although I don't work in the IT industry, I love my Apple and I hate going to work and using a PC.

Heads up on the IPOD. I had the first generation nano, it loved it. After about 6 months it just froze up, so I contacted apple. After going through all the motions of differant things to check and reboot, they told me they can't help me and need to have it refurbished. After that mess I went to the Microsoft Zune. Couldn't be happier, I won't own another apple product just because of their customer service.

I dont actually own an ipod myself, and fishinvol might be on to something, I have a ZEN player that was given to me as a gift and it essentially works the same as an ipod. I also have the ONE OF THE FIRST 128meg i-river mp3 players, purchased for $120 back in 2000, and I thought it was great. It still works fine but you have to have specific software to transfer files to and from. Which is not campatible with VISTA. :( Nowadays these things have 2,4, and I think I heard of a 20 gig mp3 player which is just abserd but its neat to have seen them advance this way. Sort of like using the old commador 64 or 128 back 15-16 years ago with DOS on them. You can get a portable HD with 3/4 a terabite worth of mem. now. Man technology!!

Mine is a 30 gig, I have audio books and I have no idea how many Cd's and it's still not half way full. :)

I have a Sansa 4 gig and it is more than I could need. I don't understand why an ipod costs so much more for the same thing versus the competition?

Check out the Archos line. Music, photos, video, DVR and Wifi with a better picture. Santa brought me one. emoDance
