I put my kayak in the water at about 7:45am Thursday morning. The water was still calm with a low fog hanging over it. So I started throwing a whopper plopper and after about 20 minutes hooked up with a bass. Unfortunately he jumped and spit the bait before I could get him in. It started warming up so I switched from the plopper and started mixing it up. I found a ledge with schools of bait fish and threw a 10” mondo worm and a CB but couldn’t get them to bite. I continued on into a harbor that was about 10-15’ deep all the way through and started pitching the mondo worm around some docks. One of my first casts produced a 15.5” smallmouth! That may have been my first one this year so I was pretty excited. So it’s around 11:30 at this point, water temp is 81.5 and depth is the same. I threw beside a dock with my worm, let it sink, and when I pulled my rod tip up to drag my worm it felt heavy like I was dragging through weeds or something. I lowered it and started reeling in slack, and then there was wayyyy too much slack and my line was tracking under my kayak! I reeled it up fast and set the hook, a few hectic seconds later I landed a 4.5lb LM. It was probably my best fish since the spawn ended and it felt really good after struggling through some tough hot days.

Yeah it’s awesome I love it. It’s my first one and he did a great job. I will be going straight to him for all of my future rod purchases.
