Natural shad colors for clear water , white , clown color for dirtier water . Red works good in dirtier water too . If the water is super muddy , don't bother throwing them .

I think lucky craft has to be the best but I can't afford them so I use rapala X rap and shadow rap. Also smith wick rogues are good. The colder the water the longer you leave it sitting there

Different brands have different actions. For instance.... A general pointer 100 will have a wide wobble when you jerk it, but a Megabass 110 or a Rogue will have slight wobble . JMO, but I seem to catch more on the general pointer 100's when the fish are really actively feeding. When the water is super cold or the fish aren't overly aggressive I seem to catch em better on Rogues worked pretty slow with 3-5 second pauses.

Stickbait or suspender? I want something different depending on which one.

Sticks- go with more natural colors, but with contrast, then compare roll/shimmer.

Suspenders -I concentrate more on depth they suspend, then attitude (ie nose down, level, or tail down) rather than color. Loud colors often work well but not all the time.

Someone once told me that a good start is to get the boat in 12-15 ft of water one full cast length from the bank. That was the general slope of bottom he recommended i fish with jerk plug for Tennessee River. Obviously it would be different on tributary lakes
