I fished the bassmaster weekend series out of loudon this past saturday, Had 1 fish for 2lbs. My boater also only caught one keeper a (3.12 smallmouth). We caught 2 slicks on top of that. It was a real stuggle for just about everyone. I think 16 and some change won it on the boater side and 9lbs won it on the coangler side. My question to everyone is why is loudon so tuff to fish? Is it cause of the shortage of grass?

Jig....grass does make a difference. It was easier to catch fish on Loudon when it had grass too. For the guys that remember when nearly all the mainstream Tennessee river lakes had a good supply of Milfoil and Hydrilla, fishing was much easier. I fished the Chic before they killed the grass, while it was dead and since it`s revival....it`s obvious that the grass is the difference. The Chic was just as tuff when it was devoid of grass.
But the real Pros and the local pros that fish just a couple of different waters usually find a few fish at TX time. FT-Loudon usually takes close to 20#s a day when they come to town. Thru networking with local semi-pros they generally get enough info to get `em started. There are good fish in all these lakes but it takes a lot of time on the water to figure them out.
I congratulate you for stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new waters. I fish our club because it makes me fish 7 different lakes and yes the Chic it the best of the group and the only one with grass.

I enjoy the tough fishing, how else do you get better? I caught two keepers but dropped at least four at the net. For me, I used the wrong size hook when I poured my jigs or I just wasn't setting them good. No way would it have made a difference, most were slicks. Tough or not, I always enjoy the fishing..

I have a blast fishing new lakes dont get me wrong. But for some reason I struggle on that lake more than others. Regardless any day on the water beats a day at work!

When the FLW pros fished Ft. Loudon on April of 2010 under ideal conditions, it took less than 60 lbs to win it. That's less than 15 lbs a day. I will say this though, it is a beautiful lake, but it's better suited for pleasure boats and jet skis.
