Anyone who watched the FLW Cup this past weekend should know it has been tough here. Seems the heat and weather has these fish shut down. I almost did not go with the weatherman calling for a heat index of 110. emoEek Got on the water at 8:00 a.m. and started with cranks and moving baits. Not even a smell. Nothing. Went deeper and started seeing fish on my graphs. Most seemed to be suspended. Never could get the ones suspended to eat but finally figured out the ones near the drops in 13 to 18 feet seemed to have a couple willing to bite. It was a grind, but it worked. A couple of the places I found had brush which seemed to make those places even better as long as the brush was by a good drop in that 13 to 18 foot range. emoThumbsup Might should have tried a drop shot but most of you know me well enough to know I was using a shakey. emoTongue I was fishing it more like a drop shot. It was slow and you could not move the bait very quickly or the hook would come through the plastic and get hung up in the brush piles.
I must be getting old because by 12:30 I was spent. Not a dry piece of clothing left on me. I was sopping wet from sweat. Decided to call it. Water temp was 89, air temp was already 96 and the heat index had already hit 105. emoVomit Time to head for the air conditioning. I put 14 bass in the boat. Nothing all that big. Had 3 between 2.5 and 3. A couple other 2s and several one pounders. Considering how poor the size was at the FLW Cup I will take it. Best five would have hit 12 to 12.5 lbs. I did loose one good one about 3/4th ways back to the boat, looked to be a low 4 lber. Jumped twice and just came unbuttoned. emoBawl Nothing picture worthy on this outing.
Tight lines gang, keep the reports coming. emoDance Jmax
