Derek and I would first off like to thank Don Morgan(Action Alarms) for his sponsorship of both the Shriners Tournament itself and for him sponsoring myself and Derek to fish in the tournament. emoThanks I came out pretty good in this one considering Derek wanted to take his boat, he paid for the gas, Don paid our entry fee and all I had to come up with was the $10 for big bass. emoThumbsup emoBigsmile We kind of felt we had won something before the tournament ever started.
We started shallow and found a few fish. Spook, beaver, swim and shakey were on the good list. Our problems continued just like they had been from the CBA with most of our fish having short disease where the ends of their tails were too close to their eyes. emoRolleyes Derek did manage a couple nice three pounders that made it into our live well and he lost another. I finally hooked up on a good keeper and it came off. emoAngry Then he hooked up on another good one, on a trap and it came off. emoMad I thought, "Here we go again!" We puttered around shallow fishing from 3 to about 8 feet for the morning but never found any really active fish. Finally we headed deep thinking the boats out on the lake by now would be good and heavy. emoDoh They were! Fought waves and wind for the rest of the time. 1st deep hole was a bust. Moved around a little looking for some productive place that did not already have someone on it. Fishing swims, cranks and big worms we finally started putting more bass in the boat. I lost what looked to be about a good 5 to 6 pounder after it jumped twice and was about six feet from the net when it jumped again and threw my crank. emoHoppingmad That seems to be the story of our year so far. emoBang On a good note that does make me feel a little better is the fact that even if we had boated every good fish we had on we might have had enough to get a check on the bottom of the places. I do not remember the exact weights but Rogne won it with something like 32.68 lbs, then there were two sacks at 27 approx., then the other were over 20 lbs. I believe. I want to say they paid seven or eight places and had about 40 boats in it.
Can't really complain too much. We filled our limit and culled a few times. Problem was the culls were ounces not pounds. Going in at three we saw many really good sacks and after talking to a couple folks we realized that the morning bite was on in the deep water that morning while we were searching the shallows. We had a good solid 15 pound plus limit which was only good enough to put us in the middle of the pack. We had four nice Large Mouth and one really pretty Smallie. We won a $50 gift card for our efforts, got to boat a bunch of fish, company was good, got to see some of our friends and have some laughs. We had a good day overall. The tournament was well run and I would like to thank the Shriners for putting it on and the CBA bunch for doing the actual tournament for them. emoWorthy
