I thought Derek was going to fish this one with me but he backed out saying he had been working so much he was just going to take it easy on the 4th and hang with family. My back up partner Mr. Whiskers had called me earlier and told me he wanted to go if Derek did not. Called him and he was on for it. Well...he had his dad have shoulder issues and he had to help his dad out that day instead. emoDoh Called Jmaes (CCSM), he had a family 4th event and then called Jerry (Cutthroat) who had a back issue flare up on him. emoGoofy By this time I was burned out on looking and just gave up. I have to admit there is a fear of taking a newby to places I go and have them beat those places up later. emoRolleyes So, I just gave up and went solo.
Did not have much of a plan. I felt I could easily catch a limit but size has been too small for me this year on the Chick to win a single tournament. emoRedface I was right. Had no issue at all catching. Put about 25 bass in the boat with half of those at least being keepers. First three stops were a bust for me. Not even a smell. Forth stop had one crush a crank in about 20 foot, it was 3/2. Switched to a shakey and had a limit there in no time. Issue was they were two pounders. Moved to another spot and loaded one up on the shakey off a tree in 16 foot. It was 3/3. Culled my smallest two at 2/6. Caught a couple small keepers but nothing that would help. Made another move and loaded up on one that was 3/10. Culled a 2/10 so made a 1 pound cull up. emoThumbsup Kept thinking if I could only get a kicker I might be able to salvage a check out of this one. It was not meant to be. Boated a couple more two pounders but nothing better then the 3/2 which was my smallest in the well. Once that sun came up I could not get anything to chase.
Ended up going in with the three 3s and had 9.98 lbs. Ended up in 10th place. A decent showing with 37 boats but no check with four places paid. In hind sight I should have gone crappie fishing. Might have been able to get a pound crappie for the best trash fish to take home the $210.00 trash fish pot. emoTongue But who knew that a .97 stripe would be the biggest trash fish weighed in. emoBigsmile Last year it was a 20 plus pound catfish.
Still had a good time and got to stretch a line. The weather was never all that hot with the overcast morning and we got off the water just about the right time as to avoid all the play boats which were just coming out in force. Congrats to Tim Harrison and Harry Bundy on a good win with three at 16.58 lbs. emoWorthy Jmax
