What a tournament! emoEek That is by far the best August Day tournament I have seen on the Chick since moving here 12 years ago. I would have thought that 17/18 pounds would get a check in August. Not in this one. They paid 13 places and I believe 13th was 19.94 lbs. Last year this same tournament it only took 17 and a half pounds to get paid. This year it almost took 20 lbs to get a check in this August Day CBA! emoGoofy I have said before with this bunch in the CBA you cannot miss, break off and/or loose any big fish and expect to get a check. That sums up our day. emoMad Caught a lot of fish. Had a small limit by about 10 that would only go about 9 lbs at best. A really poor smallie, three small keeper LM and a spot. Then we proceeded to cull every one of them. I believe four of those were on a spook and one on a shakey all shallow. We had started around deeper grass edges where the grass was topped out or near the surface. We could get the bass to hit but none that big. Had to go deeper to find a better size for us. We ended up with one five, two fours, a three and one about 2.5 that we really badly needed to cull. I had one jump off by the boat that looked to be four to five pounds with Derek standing there with the net in the water waiting. emoHoppingmad Just out of reach. Then Derek broke one off on a jig that we think was another good one. Like I said, we had our chances but could not close the deal. The five we weighed in went 19.77, then there was a 19.96 for 12th, 19.94 for 13th and 19.93 for 14th!!! It was really tight right there at the bottom of the money places. emoCrazy The ones we weighed in came from anywhere from 15 to 20 foot. All were either caught on a shakey or a jig. emoRolleyes

Can't really complain, We ended up in 16th place and received some good points. Had almost 20 lbs and we had a great day of catching. I bet we boated about 30 bass today but only eleven would keep. Lots of small bass. The weather was nice and the light rain kept it cooled down and tolerable. The day belonged to Zach Crider ("Crider" on here) and his dad David Crider. They won it with 25.62 lbs I believe. Congrats to them, it was their first ever CBA win!!! emoWorthy Zach and I have fished together on the G. He is a very nice young man, I was glad to see him and his dad win it. emoApplause Jmax

Thanks for all your reports Jmax

Your welcome, sorry if I sound like some broken record. emoRedface It seems Derek and I for the last three CBAs we have fished have lost good fish. What makes it even more frustrating is yesterday we very well might have been in the top five if we could have just kept what we had bite, on. emoBooHoo When I go and it does not seem to matter I have a better average of getting them into the boat. emoCrazy When the tournament is on the line we seem to loose some of our better bass. Maybe we are trying too hard? emoScratch Whatever it is I am getting tired of talking about the big ones that got away. emoAngry Jmax

One thing that happened yesterday that was kind of cool is, I have a favorite crank bait. I throw it often. I always keep extra. Over the years I have found and made structure in some of my better places. This structure will often eat a crank bait. emoBang We were working one of those deep cranking spots yesterday and Derek said, "Hey Jim, isn't that one of your crank baits right there?" I looked where he was looking and there was one of my favorite cranks that was just floating in the water. It was about 18 foot right there! He trolled me over to it and I picked it up. It had to be from last year or the year before because the hooks had rusted away. It made me wonder if we had snagged it and broke it free from where it had been hung. emoSmile Cleaned it up today, plan to put new hooks on it, should be useable again. Recycled crank baits anyone? emoTongue Jmax

Just saw the full results from this tournament has been posted on the CBA web site and there were 21 boats who had over 19 lbs in this event. emoEek Think about that, out of 77 boats who entered into this tournament 21 had over 19 lbs!!!! That is 27.27% of the field, good golly Batman! The Chick is really fishing well in August! emoDance Jmax
