Decided to go try my luck at last night's dog fight out of HBSP. Had a really nice night. Fishing was slow but consistent for me. I kept catching my better bass all looking like identical twins. Not bad fish at all but just slightly too small to feel good about getting a check. Had several three's but only one four and it was only 4/4. I really can't complain about the catching. I did loose two that were good ones but I am not sure they were any bigger then what I had. Once they get close to four it is hard to tell in the dark. I weighed in my 4/4, a 3/15 and a 3/10. I also culled a 3/9 and a 3/6. emoRolleyes Just gained ounces. My weight on the scales was 11.78 lbs. I had hoped I might sneak in on the bottom but not last night. emoBooHoo Came in at fifth and they paid only three places. Still a beautiful night, good friends, great weather, you can't ask for much better. emoToast Would have had over 18 and a half pounds with my best five, I will take that. emoThumbsup Just needed a good kicker and I could have been right there, I was in the hunt which always makes for a more interesting night.
Tried deep to start with but just could not find any that would play deep. Had to go shallow and work the deeper edges of the grass that is coming up very nicely. Casting into the edges and working my shakey out to open water was the ticket for me. Every now and then it would load up. Lots of fun and kept the night entertaining. Mainly about the first 10 yards into the grass out to open water. Using a 3/16th oz shakey with a finesse worm on 10 pound fluorocarbon. At times it was hard to tell what was grass and what was a bass. I had one last night I bet I pulled it four foot before I realized it was a bass, I thought it was grass. lol
It was won by Allen Lewis and partner with somewhere around 14 and 3/4 pounds. They had the kicker I was needing with a nice one at 7 pounds something, they got big bass of the tournament also. emoWorthy Second was 13 something and third and fourth was 12 something. I am sure Tim will be posting the results when he gets up. emoBigsmile Thanks for putting it on Tim, good seeing everyone last night.
Hope you guys tonight in both the dog fight and the CBA load the boats and have a great one. emoGrouphug Jmax
