I swear I must be getting old and have a hard time making a decision. emoRedface First I was fishing the dog fight, then I was going to fish the TN/GA wars, but I do not claim either being a displaced Hog fan. Called Derek who told me he was going to fish with Chase. Then called CCSM and he had a family get together that he could not miss. emoScratch Then they were calling for rain but then they changed it to the evening hours. emoDoh I decided finally to fish the dog fight unless it was raining and if it was I was sleeping in. emoRolleyes Last night I changed all my rods to deep baits and told myself I was going deep. Got up this morning to see overcast sky and what looked like rain coming with a pretty good wind. HECK! Change out the baits again, go back to shallow and decided to fish deeper grass edges.
By this time I just about had a headache. emoTongue I will say after it was all said and done I really feel it was the right decision but took me way too long. Right off I started catching bass. Actually my first cast put a 13 incher in the boat followed by two more along that same size in the next 20 casts or so. Just when I thought I had screwed up because I was only catching little guys, I got a hard knock on my shakey, set the hook and the rod loaded up. emoDance In came the big girl, 6.84 lbs. That pretty much cemented me to that pattern for the tournament. My day followed that program right there. For about every keeper I caught I caught two to three shorts. Put about 25 bass in the boat today and had about 10 keepers. Not a lot of weight other then the one big girl and one other that got off that cost me the tournament. emoCrazy Hooked up with that one on a crank, it just stopped it dead and then started doing a head shake. Got only about two good turns of the reel with the rod double over and she came off. emoBawl
Still a great morning on the water. Culled three times but only gained ounces. Ended up with the 6.84 lber, a 3 lb 11 ouncer and a 2 lb 9 ouncer for a total of 13.14 lbs. Got second place and big bass. emoBigsmile Very nice little reward for Memorial Day. I also culled a 2/8 and a 2/4 so my best five would have been near the 18 lbs mark. I will take that any day fishing by myself in four and a half hours. The bass are biting well right now, it is just size is hard to come by. I think the day would have been totally different if that sun had come out, sky been clear and the water calm. The deep bite would have been the ticket.
Looking forward to the CFF this weekend on the Nick.
