My issue this year of not finding the big bite continues. Mr. Whiskers asked me if he could tag along, we have not fished together all year and were due. He is a fair weather fisherman and it got too hot for his taste. emoBooHoo The first 2 places we started were a bust. Not even a smell. The third stop Whiskers right off puts on a spook and starts getting busted. Problem was they would not hook up. Shortly there after a really good bass decided to eat his spook. He yells, "That's a good one!" and I go for the net. I barely got going for it when I heard him complaining. Look up to see the big bass had broke him off. emoCrazy It went on a hard run right away and the line did not hold. I knew then we were in for a long morning. emoGoofy
Started picking up shorts on a spook and shakey but the keepers were no where to be found. Moved a couple more times and finally found an area where the shakey bite started producing a couple keepers. Nothing really big but decent bass. Had a 3 and a half pound large mouth, a 3 and a half pound spot and a 2 pounder LM in the well. Just could not exchange that one for a kicker. That is what we needed. Hit a long point in the river and in came another decent two pounder that culled us up a couple ozes at 2/11. Never could get rid of that one. Did appear to have another in the three pound class hit a crank only to loose it half way to the boat. Would not have made a difference for a check. We needed one at least five to get in the money. Had a good time. Whiskers finally shifted over to a shakey and boated a couple that were keepers. Ended up with about 15 to 20 bass in the boat with 8 that would have kept, maybe nine. The best three were only 10 lbs so once I saw what was being weighed in I just released ours. emoRolleyes Our three best were shakey bass. All deep.
When you get 35 boats fishing a tournament this time of year on the chick in a three fish dog fight you had better have a kicker about 90% of the time. That is usually what it takes. Congrats to those in the money and the others who were near misses. Had a 14 for the win, 13 and 12 pound weight to place. Then I think there were three in the 11 pound weights. Then there would have been us if I had weighed in. Only three places were paid so no need to stress out the fish even more.
Thanks for putting it on Bob! emoThanks Jmax
