Had a blast today in the Soddy Daisy Basketball TX. My buddy who comes down every year for a fishing trip has been out with me for a couple days. He asked if there was any tournaments on the lake going on and I told him about this one. He wanted to fish it so we did. emoSmile I have been trying to put him on a big Chick Monster Bass for a couple years now. Issue was whenever we got a six, seven, eight or nine it was on my line. emoRolleyes It looked like this one was going to be another one of those. But today that all changed. Martin had never used a frog before. I kept calling him Quick Draw cause he kept setting the hook right when they hit and missing them. He finally got the hang of it yesterday and brought one in that was 3 lbs. First bass ever for him on a frog. This morning early he had a good one blow up on his frog and he did great. Hesitated just the right amount to get a good hook set. In came the best one so far for us at 4/5. I added a couple two's to the well and we were sitting on 8/8 knowing we needed to upgrade those two small ones. Bought several more, all short except one that did not help. At 1:00 o'clock we made one more move to another grass mat hoping still to cull. Caught another short and Martin made a cast out to a thick mat area. I just happen to look that way when he did, just in time to see the mat part and a beauty of a bass come completely out of the mat and crush his frog!!! emoEek He set the hook and she locked him down. He could not move her. I told him she was too big and just hang on and keep the line tight. Turned the motor on high and trolled into the jungle. Plowing grass on full speed I got to her and grabbed his line. She was still there! emoDance Netted her with about 30 lbs of grass. She was his best bass ever in his life and Martin is 70 years old. Tipped my scales at 9/4. emoApplause His third bass ever on a frog and his best bass of his life. emoToast

Out went a two for a cull up of seven lbs. emoBigsmile We were spent on that one and just kind of wasted the next thirty minutes waiting to run in. We had 15.64(?) I believe. I may be off a little there but that is close. His big girl on their scales was 9.24 lbs. Took some pictures of her, admired her one last time and she is back in our lake ready for someone else to tie into her. :) Won the tournament and got big bass. He had a great time and made some great memories. He also got a trophy. emoThumbsup Here is a couple of the pictures. Jmax

Now that's a mossback. Look at her color - she loves the grass!

I thought that too. We walked back out on the pear at Chester frost to release our three since the water is so low behind the CBA weigh building. It is very clear there. After a couple more pictures he bent down and released her into that clear water. You could see her very well until she hit the grass there by the pear and she just disappeared and blended right into the color of it. That bass showed no signs of ever being caught before, no marks and was one really pretty colored bass. Not all that long but very thick and wide. As usual those pictures do not do that fish justice. We were both shaking so bad when we got her into the boat it is a wonder one of us did not fall out. I was shaking as bad as him and it was on his line! emoLaugh Jmax

I agree, Buddy's bass was 9.04 I believe so this one was a couple ounces heavier. emoAngel I tried to explain to him those don't come up often. In the seven years or so he has been coming down twice a year, we have only boated one other nine pounder and it was on a shakey in Feb., my line. I also told him if you think about 64 teams in the CBA, top class anglers for our area, fishing two days straight and in all only one nine was caught it shows just how illusive those big girls are. They did not get that big being stupid. emoBigsmile Jmax

Here is a chuckle, Martin is a single man, he has a girl friend who came with him. In his excitement over catching that big fish of a life time he showed it to her. Here he is all proud of his fish and you want to know her comment? "Who is that woman standing next to you in that picture?" emoBang emoLaugh Some gal was getting out of a boat there next to him while we took those pictures and just happened to get in on it. emoRolleyes Now that's funny! emoBigsmile Jmax
