Me and Colby fished the Tuesday night dog fight last night and considering how slow it was I guess we did fairly well. I got there early and headed out alone to a river hump. Got there and saw a new Z20 ranger sitting on my spot. emoAngry Set down about 150 yards from it and heard a familiar voice yell at me to get off "his" fish. emoScratch It was Wiskers. emoSmile He was fishing with a guy to show him some stuff on the chick, it was his boat. I started chunking a crank and Wiskers said he had not had a crank fish all stinking day, had wore his arm out. Third cast one clobbered mine. emoBigsmile Wiskers and his friend left and another one clobbered it about 3 lbs. I stopped fishing there then and decided to start there. Colby called so I went and picked him up. We went up to the Nuke to mess around an hour or so waiting for the dog fight to start. Only managed one keeper there and it was a thirteen inch spot. emoRolleyes
Tournament started and we went to the hump. Colby got the first one on a drop but it was short. I managed two more on a crank and they were short. That was it there so we moved to the grass beds. Changed to our main stay shakeys and again as all month we managed to catch a couple in the grass. Three of four slicks and one nice one about 2.75 lbs. Moved from there and headed for deep water. Used cranks, drops and slow rolled blades with notta. Moved from there and hit docks. Fishing some bush piles off the docks we managed to boat three or four more slicks and I boated two more nice sized keepers off shakeys. One about 2.75 and one about 2.5 lbs. Could not get any more keepers to hit so again we headed for grass looking for a kicker with about an hour to go. Still drowning shakeys we boated a couple more slicks. With about 25 minutes to go I get a hard hit and the rod loads up. Set the hook and I can tell it is a keeper. It is getting dark earlier so we could not see it well. Colby netted it and it was a long 18 incher. I culled the 2.5 and added it to the well. We ran out of time with never getting our kicker. I thought we had at least 8 lbs but those fish were just skinny. Ended up with three all the same about 2.75 each for a total of 7.74 lbs. Got third place, they only paid two place.... emoDoh back in my old spot of first out of the money.
Had a good time regardless....boated about 17 bass and had five keeper LM and the one keeper spot. It was a poor day for everyone with big bass going to 2jigs at 3.87 lbs and the winners only had 8.46 lbs.
Looking forward to the CBA marathon this weekend. Hope to see a lot of you there.
